Man United incoming boss Jose Mourinho agrees £40m contract over summer deal

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has personally agreed a deal to bring
Gonzalo Higuain to Manchester United if he becomes manager, according to sensational reports in Italy. Portuguese manager is said to have met with Higuain’s brother, who acts as the striker’s agent, to discuss a transfer. Mourinho is reportedly keen on securing Higuain’s arrival at Old Trafford and an £85million transfer fee has been agreed, claims Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli. The 53-year old manager has himself provisionally agreed to the Napoli striker’s contract demands – even though United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward usually conducts negotiations.
According to the report, 28-year-old Higuain wants a five-year contract worth £8m a season. That boils down to a £153,000-a-week wage for Higuain, whose current deal in Naples expires in 2018. And it would mean United paying the Argentina international £40m until 2021 – at which stage Higuain would be 33. Man United are preparing for a big summer of spending and look set to appoint Mourinho, with incumbent boss Louis van Gaal stepping aside. Dutch manager has spent around £250million on new players since arriving at the club in 2014 and is yet to win a trophy. As for Higuain, he has scored 27 goals in 29 league games for Napoli this season and suffered an ankle knock during training this week. However, he is expected to be fit for Napoli’s home clash with Genoa on Sunday as they seek to cut Juventus’ three-point lead at the top of Serie A.
