Morgan Schneiderlin experienced the winning feeling in a Manchester derby on Sunday and the Frenchman is hoping the victory will act as a springboard for the remainder of the season, starting in the next outing against Everton at Old Trafford.
The midfielder was impressive in the 1-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad, combining with Juan Mata for Marcus Rashford’s 16th-minute winner, while Schneiderlin’s 94 per cent passing accuracy was the joint-highest on both teams during Sunday’s encounter.
Playing in his second Manchester derby, the summer signing from Southampton was delighted to record his first victory in this match, having played out a goalless draw in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford earlier this season. However, his sights are already fixed on Everton - the opposition when he scored his only Reds goal to date, back in October.
"It is a great feeling to win, especially for our fans after the disappointment of the Europa League defeat against Liverpool," he told MUTV. "We knew it was a massive game for ourselves as well as our fans and the club.
"We must make sure we win the game against Everton. We have some time to recover and to enjoy this victory with the international break but, against Everton, it will be even bigger than Sunday because if we want to do something [in the league] we need to confirm it with another win.”
Recent stats have shown when the 26-year-old plays for United, the Reds have a 57 per cent win ratio, compared to 28 per cent without him and, when the tough-tackling midfielder has started, the team have lost just twice in 27 matches.
Schneiderlin was also full of praise for derby hero Rashford, who scored his fifth goal in eight starts for the Reds, and the France international firmly believes the 18-year-old has a bright future ahead of him.
"It is amazing what’s happened with him since he made his debut," added the midfielder. "He’s a great talent, it is not just about the goals he is scoring, it’s about all his game. He will make some progress in the future as well and he will be a top, top player."
