The French defender is out for six months after breaking his right leg and dislocating an ankle but has begun house hunting in the Manchester area ahead of his prospective transfer.
The 21-year-old has long been identified by Pep Guardiola as a player he wants at City for next season.
Laporte has been awaiting a change over in agents but it is anticipated he will join the Jorge Mendes stable ahead of completing the transfer from Athletic Bilbao.
City will naturally ensure medical examinations before signing off the deal as they monitor his recovery.
Laporte is a stylish, athletic centre-back who has also been monitored closely by Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
