Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has explained why he rejected Arsenal to stay at the King Power Stadium.
Vardy was a subject of transfer from Arsenal after the gunners triggered his £20million release clause in the summer transfer window but failed to agree terms with Arsene Wenger to remain with Leicester city.
The England International revealed: “I was in a hotel room for many hours of every day with nothing to do. You get that much time to think about every single thing.
“You think about what might happen, what might not, where you could be, where not.
“I won’t beat around the bush. Every time I thought about it — and every aspect of it I thought about — both my head and my heart were saying, ‘You need to stay’.”
Vardy also revealed he spent hours thinking about the move and even met with Arsene Wenger several times but it could not stop him from making his decision to stay with the League Champions.
He explained: “It was both before and after the decision. I spoke to him a couple of times.
“He was doing French TV for the Euros. It wasn’t awkward, it was just a simple ‘hello, are you okay?’ That kind of thing.”
However, Arsene wenger had earlier said he does not know why the 29-year-old striker did not make the switch to the Emirates even after meeting his buy-out clause.
